Best Coffee Shops in Summit County

Good coffee at 9,000 feet is a survival mechanism. Here's where to find it in Breck, Frisco, Silverthorne, and on the mountain.

Good coffee at 9,000 feet is not a luxury — it's a survival mechanism. Whether you need fuel before a powder day, a workspace with wifi, or just a warm room with a latte and a mountain view, these are the coffee shops in Summit County that actually care about what they're serving.

Breckenridge

Cool River Coffee House

The best coffee in Breckenridge. Period. Cool River takes its roasts seriously, the baristas are skilled, and the space — a cozy house off Main Street — has the feel of a living room where everyone's welcome. The pastries are baked in-house and the chai is the real thing, not a syrup pump. If you're working remotely, the wifi is reliable and nobody rushes you out. This is the local's morning spot.

Clint's Bakery & Coffee House

More bakery than coffee shop, but the coffee is solid and the baked goods are what you're really here for. The donuts sell out by mid-morning. The cinnamon rolls are dangerous. Grab a coffee and a pastry, walk two blocks to Main Street, and eat it on a bench watching the gondola line. That's a Breck morning.

The Crown

We covered The Crown in our restaurant guide, but it deserves a mention here for its morning program. The espresso is properly pulled, the croissants are flaky and buttery, and the space transitions beautifully from coffee house to cocktail bar as the day progresses. Best cortado in town.

Frisco

Alpine Coffee

Frisco's go-to coffee spot. Good beans, competent preparation, and a cozy Main Street location that makes it the natural first stop of the day. The drip coffee is consistently good — not groundbreaking, but reliable, which is what you want at 7 AM when it's 5 degrees outside.

Butterhorn Bakery & Cafe

Primarily a bakery and breakfast spot, but the coffee program is solid and it's the most popular morning destination in Frisco by a wide margin. If you're getting a cinnamon roll (you should be getting a cinnamon roll), you might as well get the coffee too.

Silverthorne & Dillon

Sauce on the Maggie

Located in the Dillon area near the outlets, this spot serves proper espresso drinks alongside a small menu of pastries and light bites. It's less known than the Breck and Frisco options, which means you can actually get a seat on a Saturday morning. The latte art game is strong.

Red Buffalo Coffee & Tea

A Silverthorne staple with solid coffee, a good tea selection, and a relaxed atmosphere. The drive-through is a nice feature when you're headed to the slopes and don't want to get out of the car. The cold brew in summer is excellent.

On the Mountain

Let's be honest: on-mountain coffee at ski resorts is usually terrible. But if you need caffeine mid-day, 10 Mile Station at the top of the Breckenridge gondola has the best in-resort coffee — they actually use a proper espresso machine and the baristas seem to care. At Keystone, Alpenglow Stube at the top of North Peak serves surprisingly good coffee alongside the highest fine dining in the state.

The Rules

Get there early on weekends. Every good coffee shop in Summit County has a line by 8:30 AM on Saturdays. If you want a seat and a relaxed experience, arrive by 7:30.

Tip well. Coffee shop workers in Summit County pay Summit County rent. A dollar in the jar matters.

Bring a reusable cup. It's the mountains. We care about this stuff up here.
